About Ben Scheppmann
My name is Ben Scheppmann and I am currently a student at Concordia University in Austin, Texas. As of February 2020 I am 21 years old and am currently in my junior year of college working towards my Communications degree. In my personal life I value my fiancee, my friends, and family.
Since high-school and college my academic interests have changed a bit. Prior I my interests resided in the industrial arts (wood working and metal working) and history as well. Today my academic interests are history and Communications/Public Relations.
Public Relations is my current most intense interest. I enjoy seeing how companies and organizations operate and react. I also enjoy watching new arenas for Public Relations arise, such as new social media. It allows me to stay on top of the latest trends. As a Communications student I am also continually learning the latest methods to most effectively work in the Public Relations field.
My aspirations upon graduation is to work for a company handling their Public Relations and slowly working my way up in the company to gain more experience. Some relevant work experience I have was setting up and managing the advertising and public image of a booth selling ice-cream and other products on the Concordia campus to raise money for a charity.
Interest In Digital Journalism
My interest in digital journalism comes from the era that we live in; the digital era. In this day and age it would be impossible to try to work in the communications or journalism field without working with the internet and all the possibilities it holds. To me it is a vast, interesting place that allows for the free-flow of nearly instantaneous information from around the global. Digital journalism is a major part of this conveying important stories from around the global in mere seconds. This is also why the communications field interests me, as thanks to increases in technology the field has expanded to encompass numerous different jobs. Communications also interests me because there are new methods coming out every year, but some of the oldest parts of the job (like writing press releases) still exist, allowing for an intriguing combination.
